Advanced equipment specialists, discover a scarce treasure with this 1928 Reach Ernest S. Barnard Official American League Baseball in sealed original box. Throughout the 1901-1999 span of American League play, Barnard had the shortest tenure of any AL President. The defined era encompasses the period when the names of NL and AL Presidents appeared on official baseballs, prior to the use of the Official Major League baseball, which was instituted in the year 2000. Barnard took office when Ban Johnson was ousted after the conclusion of the 1927 season. Though Barnard's name appeared on Reach OAL balls from 1928-1931, there was a patent number change after the 1928 season, making the offered ball a scarce one-year type, with the patent date "Mar. 17-25" printed on a box side panel illustration of the ball.
As the ball remains sealed in its original box, it is presumed to be in a high-grade state. The box retains a pleasing shape and displays generally distinct graphics and lettering. The red label seal is intact, despite a partial tear on one side measuring a 1/2" in length, and it remains securely attached to the box. One side panel has a 1 x 2-1/2" triangle torn off, however this piece is present and when positioned properly, it proves complete. Another side panel shows a small surface abrasion and bits of brown paper residue. The other four panels are handsome and fairly clean. A look inside the torn section, shows the ball's paper wrapper is crisp and clean, and overall the appearance of this ancient relic is very pleasing.
