We're all familiar with crosstown rivalries and subway series, a but a cross-field rivalry is unusual to say the least. This odd phenomenon has occurred in World Series play four times to date, including twice at the Polo Grounds, when the New York Giants faced the New York Yankees in back-to-back World Series, in 1921-1922. The host Giants subleased their stadium to the Yankees from 1913-1922, and in 1921 and 1922, all World Series games were contested at the Polo Grounds, with the Giants winning both times.



From Game 4 of the 1922 World Series, comes this PSA encapsulated ticket stub. The obverse presents in very handsome state, with a clean surface, bold graphics, and fairly sharp corners. The reverse side bears a streak of small surface paper loss rings, and a 1/2" strip of tape covering the left edge. These conditions have resulted in a PSA Authentic grade.



At the time, the Yankees were just starting to assemble their first dynasty. They would liberate themselves from their postseason miseries the very next season, turning the tables on the Giants in their third consecutive Fall Classic meeting. The other two occasions when the World Series was contested at a single stadium, were 1944 in St. Louis, and 2020, when the global pandemic forced a very strange, abbreviated MLB season.
