Advanced equipment collectors, score a crown jewel by winning this 1919-1924 John A. Heydler Official National League ball, sealed in its original factory box. A dedicated baseball executive, Heydler served as NL President from 1919-1934. During his term in office Spalding produced ONL/Heydler balls with four different labeling types. An illustration of the ball seen on one of the box panels is printed with the patent date "August 31 - 1909", indicating this ball is the earliest Heydler type, dating from the period 1919-1924. Given its 100+ years of existence, the box is surprisingly attractive, with a solid shape, distinct graphics/lettering, and a securely attached paper seal. The seal has an A.G. Spalding facsimile signature on one side, and the name "J. O'Toole is written on another side of the seal only. Heydler baseballs from this labeling period are very tough, and examples in solid, pleasing boxes such as this one are truly rare treats.
