A blast from the distant past arrives with this 19th Century trophy bat presented to the Social Base Ball Club of Westerly, RI. Fairly straight with just a slight taper on the handle, this ball knob bat is surprisingly heavy, given its slender styling. Engraved silverplate adornments, multiple mineral streaks, and rich coloring combine to give this antique bat great period authentic appeal. A couple of hairline cracks are noted on the handle, though they appear to be a non-threat to this weighty club's integrity. Other signs of attrition include general surface wear, and a small divot just north of the engraved plate at center.
The pointed 7" x 2-3/4" metal plate at center is engraved with "Social B.B. Club Westerly R.I.". The other decorative elements are a 2-1/2" band ringing the barrel end, etched with an ornate fluer-de-lis and acanthus leaf scroll patter, and a 1-1/2" diameter cap over the ball knob, etched with an alternate fleur-de-lis and scallop shell pattern. A fine representation of the period, this exceptional trophy bat is worthy of prominent display.
