This first-ever edition is housed in a stately Sports Illustrated-issued folder, with "Sports Illustrated First Issue August 16, 1954" in gold lettering on the front. Accompanying is an SI COA stating this is an original example from the August 1954 press run, which was printed in a quantity of 600,000. This is definitely one of the finest surviving copies, presenting as unread, in (MT) state. In addition to being celebrated as the first-ever issue of the sporting world's most prominent publication, this inaugural edition is also greatly prized for the three-page gatefold of Topps baseball cards featuring Hall of Fame legends Ted Williams, Willie Mays, Eddie Mathews, Jackie Robinson, "Duke" Snider, Larry Doby, Richie Ashburn and Gil Hodges.
