Excitement permeated the air when the Philadelphia Phillies moved into their new digs at Veterans Stadium in 1971. Though mired at the bottom of the newly created NL East Division, a healthy crop of young position players and veteran starting pitchers gave fans hope. With idea man Bill Giles in the front office, the Phils were big on promotions. They brought in the great Harry Kalas to call the games, had their backup catcher drop the first pitch on Opening Day from a helicopter, and they introduced mascots Philadelphia Phil and Phyllis. These bulb-headed colonial kids were colorfully attired in 18th Century garb, including the (2) tunics offered here. The tenure of these mascot twins was short-lived, as they were replaced by the jolly green Philly Phanatic in 1978. Despite a run limited to 1971-1978, souvenirs picturing Phil and Phyllis remain in high demand with the Phillies “Phaithful" all these many years later. This pair of tunics goes way beyond typical souvenir stand fare, counting as 1971-1978 game-worm items. Both have James & Son Military Clothiers labels inside the collar, and both present handsomely with full complements of metal buttons, light soiling, and age-appropriate wear.

Opening Bid $100.
