You may have a raw copy of Sports Illustrated's first ever issue. You may even have a graded example, which is very cool, and perhaps you even have one of the prized copies that came in a special Sports Illustrated issued folder, which is also something to brag about. But if you don't have one of the hardcover bound examples, it's time to up your game for this rare 1954 Sports Illustrated Vol. 1, #1 bound edition. Dated 8/16/54, SI's first issue is greatly prized by publication collectors. This seldom seen type is that very same first ever issue, with the added benefit of a blue cloth cover. Lettering on the spine reads "Sports Illustrated Volume 1 Number 1," and the front of the cover is printed repeatedly with the overlapping letters "SI" in random fashion. With only an 1/8" tear on the edge of the back cover, the magazine is otherwise gorgeous. The hardcover presents as (EX-MT) with minor wear. In addition to being celebrated as the first-ever issue of the sporting world's most prominent publication, this inaugural edition is also greatly prized for the three-page gatefold of Topps baseball cards. The baseball card insert in this offering is clean, crisp, and vibrant, with just a touch of wear at one corner, and features (27) period stars including Hall of Fame legends Ted Williams, Willie Mays, Eddie Mathews, Jackie Robinson, "Duke" Snider, Larry Doby, Richie Ashburn and Gil Hodges.
