When you hear it for the first time, the idea of a metallic-skinned alien riding around on a flying surfboard sounds a bit silly, however noble super-hero Silver Surfer is anything but. Introduced in the pages of the 1966 Fantastic Four issue #48, the Surfer was a decidedly serious character, with an existential crisis on his hands. Another dozen FF appearances followed and the exile from Zenn-La gained enough of a following to merit his own solo title. Launched by Marvel in 1968, the original Silver Surfer title ran for just 18 issues, as it was complex, and a bit ahead of its time. More than fifty years later, this Silver Surfer first series is greatly sought after, and here we have a 1968-1970 partial run of (10/18) issues.
Highlights are (2) important key issues, with: #1 more detailed origin story (GD); and #4 low distribution issue, with classic Thor vs. Silver Surfer cover presents VG-FN details, with deference to first 8 pages detached but included.
Additional highlights are: #2 first appearance of Badoon (FN+) and #3 first Mephisto (VG).
Balance are: #5 Fantastic Four appearance (GD+); #6 (FN); #9 (FN-VF); #10 (FN-VF); #13 (VG); and #14 Spider-Man cover/appearance (FN+).
Also present is a bonus comic, 1991 Silver Surfer Vol. 3, issue #50 Thanos story with embossed silver foil cover (NM+).
