Pro basketball in the 1940s was a convoluted scene. Fans of the day shelled out their dough, to attend games put on by the ABL, NBL, BAA, barnstorming squads, and ultimately the NBA. The ABL ceased to exist in 1955; the Harlem Globetrotters remained a steady draw; and the BAA and the NBL joined forces to become the NBA in 1949. A unique path was taken by the Baltimore Bullets. Originating in the ABL in 1944, the Bullets jumped to the BAA in 1947, and competed in the NBA until they folded up shop for good in 1955.

Memorabilia related to this long defunct franchise, falls in the pretty darn tough category. One hardy survivor surfaces here, with this c.1950 WITH 1230 radio station tin advertising sign. Sized at 21x19, this scarce promoter reached out to fans with the legend "Listen To Bullets Basketball Games WITH 1230 On Your Dial", in multi-color lettering on a white background. Staining and soiling wind around the perimeter, and a couple of the radio station's red call sign letters suffer minor paint loss. These condition support the the authentic vintage nature of this seldom seen sign, and overall, the presentation is both pleasing and dynamic. While even programs and media guides related to this team are very hard to track down, our research turned up a photo of a page from the NBA Baltimore Bullets 1953-54 media guide, with Chuck Thompson listed as the broadcaster for games on WITH radio.
