Hall of Famer Eddie Collins (d.1951) candidly detailed an injury he suffered during his playing days, with this 1943 typed letter signed. In response to a young fan, Collins relates the tale of his 400+ consecutive games played streak coming to an end, when an opposing player slid into his left leg, while he was manning second base for the Chicago White Sox. In addition to encouraging a youth named "Richard Rose" to pursue his interest in baseball, Collins also states "I was out of the game for some time. As a matter of fact, I could not walk for several days.". Typed on Boston American League Baseball Club letterhead, this fascinating letter is dated 11/4/43, a time when Collins was serving as General Manager for the Boston Red Sox. With deference to two small pieces of tape on the reverse at top, this twice folded letter remains crisp and attractive. Collins stylish signature rates as an ("8.5") strength example.

Accompanying is a 1926 unused scorecard handbill (VG), with a photo and endorsement by Collins, for the Pittsburgh District Dairy Council.
