Surrounded by media and plagued with death threats, Hank Aaron remained a graceful model of consistency in 1973 and early 1974, when he was chasing "Babe" Ruth's revered career home run record. On 4/8/74, Aaron belted career home run #715 and the celebration of the new home run king was on. From the ensuing fanfare, comes this group of (5) 1974 Aaron chalkware commemoratives.
Featured are:
(2) 1974 Continental Distributing Company 8-3/4 x 12" chalkware wall plaques, both fitted with embedded metal hanging hoops on the back. Finished with bronze paint, both are marked on the top edge with "MFG. by Cont. Dist. Co., ©Henry Aaron". One of these plaques is in outstanding condition, with minor wear confined to the back; and the other plaque has a 1 x 1/2" chip on the top edge, and also minor wear on the back, while the design on the front is unaffected.
(3) 1974 Genesis Productions 7-1/2" chalkware busts, also finished with bronze paint. All (3) busts are marked on the back of the base with "©Henry Aaron, Genesis Productions Inc. Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53206". Also noted on the back of the right shoulder is the artist's name "M. Matoba 74". All (3) busts are in outstanding condition, however one piece has a couple of paint cracks on the right side of the base.
