Wayne Gretzky, Roberto Clemente and...Gary Beban? All three were nicknamed "The Great One" for their talent and heroics. Beban is best remembered among UCLA die-hards for a comeback victory against USC in 1965. Any other football buff likely only knows him as a Heisman winner. For our purposes here, the most important piece of information is that Beban played in the East-West Shrine Game on December 30, 1967, and then a month later he entered the NFL draft. Essentially, Beban's entire West squad of All-Americans is represented here by their ballpoint "5-7" signatures on a GD/VG ball. Accompanying is the unsigned 12/30/67 East-West Shrine Game program from Candlestick Park. Auction LOA from JSA.
