None other than Satchel Paige said that Turkey Stearnes was as good a hitter as anyone that ever played the game—including the immortal Josh Gibson. Stearnes could hit for average and power, batting over .400 and winning multiple home-run titles. His Hall of Fame plaque describes him as a "graceful center fielder" to boot. There's a paucity of his autographs in the hobby because Stearnes died in 1979 and didn't receive the attention he deserved until his Cooperstown induction in 2000. This fine example is twice-signed on the front with additional bio details in his own hand. The reverse appears to be a message to a young fan, reading, "I haven't any Photo of myself did I would be glad to send you one take it Easy & be a good Sport Always Best regards to your family." EX-MT condition with blue-ink "8-9" writing. Full LOA from JSA.
