Head way back in time for a glimpse at college football before the major conferences were formed, with this 1898 program lot of (2). These late 19th Century survivors have stood up well, given the considerable length of time since their publication, and both position as scarce examples.

Featured are:

11/5/1898 Amherst vs. Dartmouth for the Triangular League Championship at Amherst, which resulted in a 64-6 win for Dartmouth. Distinctively styled with a faux wood grain cover, this string-bound program has a 2-1/2 x 1" section of album paper/adhesive residue at top center on the back cover, otherwise it shows very pleasing VG-EX details. The pages are clean and supple, and include photos of both teams, along with individual shots of their captains.

1898 University of Pennsylvania presents VG-EX details with deference to two small hole punches on the spine and moderate oxidation on the staples. Though billed on the front cover as an "Official Program", this ancient souvenir is really more of a yearbook, with a season schedule, previous year results and a good number of photographs and illustration, including venerable Franklin Field and team shots for the football, baseball, track, crew and gymnasium squads.
