Sports Illustrated collectors hit the jackpot with this early issue lot of (16). Dating from 1954-1956, this high profile collection includes a first year near run of (13/15) issues spanning #2 through #16, along with a second #2 edition and a couple of anniversary issues from the second and third years of Sports Illustrated's lengthy run. Condition runs from above average to better, with a range of (VG-EX to EX-MT) unless noted.
Featured are:
(2) #2 second issues dated 8/23/54 with three-page foldouts of 1954 Topps paper baseball cards featuring the New York Yankees. Among the cards are several black-and-white phantoms including Mickey Mantle that were not issued in Topps regular '54 baseball card series. One of these #2 issues is a solid (EX) example with a very pleasing Topps foldout; and the other copy rates as (VG) due to a 3" split on the spine and a 50% split on the fold between the first and second pages of the Topps foldout.
Balance of the first year early issue near run, with: #3 issue dated 8/30/54, #4 issue dated 9/6/54, #5 issue dated 9/13/54, #6 issue dated 9/20/54, #7 issue dated 9/27/54, #8 dated issue 10/4/54, #9 issue dated 10/11/54, #10 issue dated 10/18/54, #12 issue 1dated 1/1/54, #13 issue dated 11/8/54, #14 issue dated 11/15/54 and #16 issue dated 11/29/54.
8/15/55 First Anniversary issue.
8/22/54. Second Anniversary issue, technically (FR) due to nearly full spine split, with cover attached at the top staple only. Otherwise this issue presents handsomely.
