The Oakland Raiders began their adventures of pillaging and plundering pro football fields in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League. After a few floundering seasons of difficulty, Al Davis took over in 1963 and the team's fortunes changed, cresting with an AFL Championship in 1967 and three consecutive West Division titles in 1967-1969. This prepared the Raiders for their merger into the NFL in 1970, where they performed as one of the most fearsome and dominant teams for the next decade and a half.
