Embodying the American dream, 22-year-old Tony Conigliaro had it all: 104 career home runs, All-Star plaudits and the adoration of the Red Sox fans in his native Massachussetts. And then came a Jack Hamilton fastball. Temporarily derailed with a devastating cheekbone fracture, dislocated jaw and damaged retina, the promising phenom rebounded briefly before succumbing to the injury and fear and ultimately, passing away at the tender age of 45. Still in the flower of his youth and on his way to God knows how many home runs and accolades, Conigliaro autographed this color photograph. The team-issued souvenir measures 7-1/2 x 9" and is signed by Conigliaro in blue ballpoint. The bold scripting projects ("9-10") potency and is preceded by a personalization (in Conigliaro's hand) and "Best Wishes" salutation.
