Given the paucity of 19th-century baseball guides in any condition—let alone well-preserved examples—we were blown away by the sight of Ben Cavallo's collection of rare Beadle's Dime, De Witt's, Wright & Ditson and Bull Durham guides. Beadle's are especially elusive, with single surviving copies from the 1860s having sold at auction for as much as $1,800. Contemporary De Witt's guides are also highly desirable, while the later Wright & Ditson and Bull Durham guides are recognized for their unique aesthetic appeal. All those offered here present nicer than their technical grade. This quartet of De Witt's includes: 1873 (GD/VG); 1882 (FR); 1883 (GD); 1884 (GD/VG).
