You would think that in this lightning quick information age, details on any given subject would turn up through a diligent search. Defying this belief is the offered collection of baseball player stamp cards. Issued c.1930s, these serious strangers are formatted simply with a portrait photo image bordered by wording as follows, "Washington Herald" across the top, "Sport" and "Stamp" printed vertically on the left and right respectively and the name of the pictured player across the bottom. These rectangle shaped stamps measure approximately 2 x 2-3/4" and are straight cut on the edges, with printed perforation facsimile frames. Obviously a regional series issued by the Washington Herald, these ultra rare premiums are akin to the 1936 Sporting News All Star Sport Stamp series but without biographical text at bottom. The Sporting News series is well known and fairly available though very pricey, with better examples commanding hundreds of dollars on an individual basis. With no sources of information for prices, availability or even an acknowledgement of their existence discovered, this series will likely be placed in the uncataloged category.

A total of (95) of these unique photo stamps are adhered to five large format album pages measuring approximately 10-1/2 x 15". All five pages have period newspaper clippings adhered to the reverse and two pages also have clippings adhered to the obverse alongside the player stamps. Though the backing pages are mildly rippled and the edges are irregular, the stamps remain appealing for the most part with only (8) affected by small sporadic holes along the right edges of the the pages, which are crisp and sturdy. All photos are distinct and the surfaces are generally clean with sharp printed text. Highlights include a potential Joe DiMaggio rookie issue and fellow HOFers Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, "Lefty" Gomez, Bill Dickey, Joe McCarthy, Heinie Manush, Earl Averill, Joe Cronin, Connie Mack, Tony Lazzeri, Clark Griffith, "Goose" Goslin, Hank Greenberg, "Bucky" Harris, Mickey Cochrane, Charlie Gehringer, Rick Ferrell, Bill Terry, Carl Hubbell, Mel Ott, Travis Jackson, Rogers Hornsby, Jim Bottomley and Ted Lyons.
