Destined for greatness in baseball and beyond, 19-year-old Ted Williams honed his skills for one last season and represented the Minneapolis Millers in the 1938 American Association All-Star Game at Indianapolis’ Perry Stadium. At that star-studded exhibition, this program was issued and remains as one of few surviving artifacts from the minor league career of perhaps the greatest hitter of all-time. The 32-page guide features scoring grids with pre-printed lineups for the A.A. All-Stars and host Indianapolis Indians. Minor cover wear with crisp pages.

The publication is one of few survivors and presents beautifully. On the coat tails of Arch Ward’s Major League All-Star Game, the American Association followed suit, pitting a roster of the circuit’s best players against, in this case, the Indianapolis Indians, who hosted the event at Perry Stadium. The scoring grids remain unmarked, though there are handwritten notations on the Indians lineup, noting changes from the printed version. While the front and back covers show incidental wear, the interior pages are crisp and complete. Additionally, the program is free of folds so commonly found on vintage stadium-issued publications.

The Indians players are individually listed throughout the program with black-and-white head shots. The All-Stars, meanwhile, are listed along with brief descriptions on the inside front and back covers. Williams' description reads (in full):

"Williams will be 20 on Oct. 30, the youngest member of the team. He was born and still lives in San Diego, Cal. He is 6 ft. 3 in. tall and weighs 175 pounds. Bats left-handed but throws right-handed. Broke in with his native city of San Diego in 1936 and was with them in 1937, being purchased by the Boston Red Sox at the close of the season, and optioned to Minneapolis for 1938. His latest batting average is .343."

Of note is the All-Star line-up, which lists Williams in the No. 3 slot with Joe “Muscles” Gallagher hitting cleanup. For the 1938 American Association season, Williams hit .366 with 43 homers. Gallagher, meanwhile, hit 24 homers and batted .343. Over his two-year stint in the Major Leagues (1939-1940), Gallagher played for three different teams, hitting 16 homers and batting .243.
