In order to capitalize on Red Grange’s popularity and cultural influence, personal manager C.C. Pyle connected the football standout with Hollywood, and Grange starred in several silver screen thrillers in the 1920 and 1930s. Presented is a 26-3/4 x 39-1/2 advertising poster from “The Galloping Ghost,” a 12-part series from Mascot Serials that ran in theaters in 1931. This attractive piece is mounted on an off-white archival mat and is presented in a black metal frame. The edges and corners on this piece are generally in solid condition and only show a few blemishes such as a 1-1/2” tear on the middle top edge and an old tape repair on the left edge. A few very minor creases on the edges and corners are present, along with a nick in the top right corner. A small light stain is noticeable just above the movie title, and the paper body of the poster shows normal, even toning for its age. These minor detractions hardly take away from the overall presentation of this fantastic rendition of Grange falling in the sky. The bold red and black hues of this lithograph jump out from the well-drawn illustration. This piece is an outstanding memorabilia item from one of the greatest athletes to have ever graced the gridiron.
