Prominent baseball teams of the 1860s are remembered, with this 1866 Harper's Weekly woodcut. Predating Major League play, these squads were among the best of the day. The date at left is 11/3/1866, and the two teams depicted are the Brooklyn Atlantics, and the Philadelphia Athletics. The image is credited to photographer Charles B. Williamson. Though the game was spreading organically across the land, New York was the epicenter of organized play. Competing in the National Association of Base Ball Players, these teams met for the league championship, with the Atlantics claiming their third consecutive title. Sized at 16-1/2 x 11-1/2", this fairly crisp page shows moderate wear around the perimeter, including staining at left and bottom to rate as (VG), with distinct player images.
