During Tony Gwynn's 20-year MLB career playing exclusively for the San Diego Padres, his team won 2 NL pennants, which is 2 more than the Padres won all the years without him. As a rookie in 1982, Gwynn batted .289 in 54 games. That was the first, last and only season NL pitchers held the exceptional contact hitter under the .300 mark. Incredibly, Gwynn won 8 NL batting titles, including both years of the labeling period for the offered 1988-1989 game-used bat.

This Louisville Slugger bat is branded with the model number C263, and a facsimile of Gwynn's signature on the barrel. Gwynn's uniform number "19," and the model number are written on both the knob, and the cupped barrel end. Many contact marks, including baseball stitch impressions are noted around the barrel. A handle crack has been repaired, and there's a ring of pine tar on the upper handle. PSA/DNA has added up these authentic signs of use, and identifiable player characteristics, to arrive at an outstanding grade of (GU 9.5). Full LOA from John Taube-PSA/DNA.

The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Opening Bid $1,500.
