Just as he was for the Cincinnati Reds in the 1970s, George Foster was a strong power hitter for the New York Mets in the 1980s. Finishing dead last in 1983, 22 games out of first place, the Mets made huge strides in 1984 by closing the gap and finishing in second place, 6-1/2 games back. Productive slugger Foster totaled 24 homers and 86 RBI, to justify this move in the right direction. Direct from the 1984 season comes this Foster game-used bat. This hickory finish Louisville Slugger in a Foster signature model #M159 “exhibits heavy use, and identifiable player characters,” as noted on the accompanying LOA. The first 10 inches of the handle are scored for grip enhancement and a crack is noted higher up on the handle, where the scoring stops. The barrel is covered all around with contact marks, and other signs of authentic use/wear. Though the facsimile Foster autograph that is burned into the barrel is somewhat obscured by attrition, it remains identifiable. Foster’s player number “15” is written in white on both the knob and the barrel end. This seasoned war club is graded PSA/DNA (GU 9) for its abundant use by Foster. Full LOA from John Taube-PSA/DNA. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Opening Bid $200.
