Ted Williams’ first AL MVP season is nicely commemorated with this 1946 Louisville Slugger point of sale sign. Sized at 15x20, this heavy cardboard stock sign features the artwork of Sam Davis, whose name is seen below Williams’ right foot. A classic Williams batting pose dominates the landscape with comical depictions of helpless opponents on the right, “The Kid” at top left, and an umpire at bottom. While Davis did not mention the Hall of Fame slugger's 1946 MVP award, he did cite several of Williams 1946 league leading stats in a swoosh at center. The bottom corner scenes recognize Williams walk-off homer in the 1941 All-Star Game at left, and the infamous “Boudreau Shift” at right. An unused easel fin is located on the back, indicating this vintage advertising piece was intended for countertop display. The colors remain strong and the graphics are distinct. There’s a small surface divot on the field to the left of Williams torso, and the rose-colored border bears about a dozen pinholes. Along with general age-appropriate wear of a moderate level, these conditions serve to reinforce the genuine period authenticity of this Louisville Slugger brand promoter. Opening Bid $150.
