Score a seldom seen treasure, with this 1909 W.M. Dick Company Pittsburgh Pirates extension postcard. Led by Hall of Famers Honus Wagner, Fred Clarke and Vic Willis, the Pirates won their first World Series in 1909, overcoming Ty Cobb and the Detroit Tigers in a tough seven-game contest. A great season for the Bucs and their fans, the 1909 campaign also saw the opening of Forbes Field on June 30th. A fantastic souvenir of this glorious season, this extension postcard folds out accordion-style, to reveal photos of 17 Pirates players, along with a two-panel shot of their new digs. The player photo panels are sized at 2-3/4 x 3-1/2", and when fully extended, this ancient postcard has a span of 20".

The pictured subjects are Wagner, Clarke, Leach, Maddox, Abbaticchio, Liefeld, Camnitz, Hyatt, Willis, Wilson, Miller, Abstein, Adams, Byrne, Philippe, Leevee, Gibson, and Forbes Field. Condition is a pleasant surprise, with the address panel being unused, while the photo panels are clean with distinct images. A tape stain between the left end flap and the Clarke photo has bled through from the reverse side, though the tape has been removed. The Wagner panel is very pleasing, and given the construction off this unique piece of ephemera, and its 115-years of age, you would expect time to have taken a considerable toll. However with the exception of the formerly reinforced slotted end flap, this antique souvenir remains fairly solid, showing VG-EX details. Opening Bid $250.
