A loving tribute to one of baseball's elites is presented, with this 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates World Champions scrapbook, filled with Roberto Clemente content. Along with a few photographs and a postcard, this scrapbook hosts (60+) player notes, expressing feelings about Clemente as a man and a player. Though a few notes are typed, the great majority are handwritten, and (30+) are signed with either full names, initials, nicknames, or first names only. The notes are in response to a fan's quest for insights regarding Clemente, with the best comment coming from Sandy Koufax, who answered the typed statement “How I pitched Roberto Clements down through the years by Sandy Koufax”, with the one-word answer “Carefully.”

First and foremost among the autographs, is a Clemente signed (“4.5”) newspaper photo clipping.

The other (30+) autographs range (“7” to “9”) in potency. Key signers are Hall of Famers: Freddie Lindstrom (initials), “Pee Wee” Reese (nickname only), Monte Irvin (full name on a photo), George Kell (full name), and Max Carey (full name). Other notables are stars: Curt Simmons, Bobby Shantz, Harvey Haddix (2), Frank Thomas, Don Larsen (initials), Ted Kluszewski ((2), both as “Klu”), Sal Maglie, Irv Noren, Wes Westrum (2), Bobby Bragan, Vern Law (2), Vic Wertz, Solly Hemus, Roy Smalley (first name only), Ruben Amaro, Lindy McDaniel, “Rip” Repulski, Hal Smith (2), and Johnny Logan.

Some of those who wrote notes, but did not sign them are: Lloyd Waner, Pete Runnels, Dick Groat, Bill Rigney, Clem Labine, Andy Pafko, Waite Hoyt, Mickey Vernon, Frank Bolling, Harvey Kuenn, Bill Virdon, Dale Long, “Smoky” Burgess, Bob Friend, and Ed Yost.

Also present are (2) original photographs, with Clemente and his wife Vera at an award presentation, and a deckle edge photo dated 6/67, with Clemente and others in uniform. A vintage Forbes Field postcard is adhered inside the front cover, next to a photo clipping of Clemente’s Exhibit card. Opposite the inside of the front cover, is a Pittsburgh Pirates – 1960 Champions team photo page, that came as part of the album.

Full LOA from James Spence/JSA for Clemente signed newspaper photo. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA for balance of the scrapbook. Opening Bid $300.
