A great team that came up just a bit short is remembered with this 1906 E. Frieberg Chicago Cubs National League Champions real photo postcard. This squad from long ago hung together for years, capturing 4 NL pennants during the 5-year period 1906-1910, winning the World Series twice. The only thing that kept them from three straight championships was their crosstown rival, the Chicago White Sox, who bested them in the 1906 Fall Classic. At the core of this Cubs dynasty were Hall of Famers Frank Chance, Johnny Evers, Joe Tinker, and Mordecai Brown.

This legendary quartet is pictured in the offered team-photo postcard. Sized at 3-1/4 x 5-1/2", this antique card shows VG details with deference to circled numbers written on the jerseys of the 16 pictured subjects. A piece of tape has been added to the reverse side only, over the postage stamp, which is cancelled with a 2/17/1907 Chicago postmark. Captioned in red letters on the obverse bottom border is "Chicago National League Championship Team 1906". Frieberg's 1906 copyright credit is located near the bottom-right corner of the obverse photo. Many 1906 Cubs team photo postcards have been offered over the years, however this one appears to be rare. This team shot has surfaced in cabinet photo form a few years back, but the search for another one of these postcards has proven fruitless.

Pictured are:

Back row: Johnny Kling, Johnny Evers, "Doc" Gessler, Jack Pfiester, Ed Reulbach, Pat Moran;

Front row: Harry Steinfeldt, Joe Tinker, "Wildfire" Schulte, Frank Chance, J. McCormick (trainer), Carl Lundgren, "Solly" Hofman;

Ground: Jimmy Sheckard, Tom Walsh, Mordecai Brown.

Opening Bid $150.
