Dan Beard, American author, artist and social activist, took the title of his autobiography from Longfellow's poem, "Paul Revere's Ride." Stuck in the city during the Civil War, Beard longed for the outdoor life. He founded the "Sons of Daniel Boone," which later merged with the Boy Scouts. He was one of the Boy Scouts earliest leaders. The 1939 First edition book and dust jacket with plastic cover are in Excellent condition. The personalized signature is on the inside cover page and reads "...from your Quaker friend, Dan Beard 9-8-39." He was 91 when he died two years later. The inscription is bold but shaky from his age ("6-7").
