Period signed baseball aficionados could make an unusual score with this multi-signed 1950s baseball. The most likely origin for the (5) autographs appearing on this ball was the 1959 Cactus League in Arizona. Hall of Famer Willie Mays and teammate Danny O'Connell were in Phoenix with the San Francisco Giants, for Spring Training. 1958 AL MVP Jackie Jensen and his teammate Leo Kiely were in neighboring Scottsdale, with the Boston Red Sox. Joining these MLB stars in the signing of the offered ball is umpire Tom Gorman. This OAL/Harridge baseball is of the type used in American League play from 1951-1959, suggesting the Red Sox were the home team when this ball was signed. The (5) autographs average ("6"-"7"), and though the ball's labeling stamps are faded, sufficient integrity remains for positive identification of the ball type. Mays' vintage autograph is located on the west panel, directly below the Reach logo stamp. Kiely (d.1984) and O'Connell (d.1969) have signed on the north panel, Jensen (d.1982) has signed on the south panel, and umpire Gorman (d.1986) has signed on the east panel.
