Don the cap of a thinking man’s pitcher, when you bring home this 1970s Steve Carlton game-used Philadelphia Phillies cap. As focused a pitcher as the world has ever seen, Carlton aggressively adhered to a rigorous training regiment, using meditation and martial arts to perfect his mind and body. In turn, the Hall of Fame hurler mastered the fastball, curveball, and especially his hard slider, which slugger Willie Stargell described trying to hit like "trying to drink coffee with a fork." For this cerebral mound master, the game came down to throwing the ball to the catcher’s glove, without regard to whoever was holding a bat at the plate.

All that brain activity, and a good amount of sweat, were tucked under the offered Carlton cap. This classic red wool cap bears a Wilson size “7-1/8” factory label at rear on the interior sweatband, which is heavily stained. The front is adorned with an embroidered Phillies “P” logo and a good number of moth holes are detected on the crown and brim. The underside of the brim has Carlton’s uniform number “32” written in black and, overall, the hat shows heavy use, as noted in the accompanying LOA from Phil Wood.

Opening Bid $200.
