Relive the magic of the famous 1961 MLB season with this extremely rare "61 For 61" pin. All season long, New York Yankees teammates Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris chased Babe Ruth's sacred single-season home run record. Winners of 109 games during the regular season, the Yankees steamrolled the Cincinnati Reds in the 1961 World Series to go down as one of the greatest teams of all time. Though he was hurt as the season was winding down, Mantle still hit 54 dingers to set the record for a switch-hitter. Somewhat less favored by the press, Maris worked his slugging magic to the bittersweet end, smashing home run #61 in the final game of the regular season. As the home runs were piling up for the "M&M Boys," several pins touting the chase were issued. Though all 1961 home run chase related pins are tough to find, the offered 1-1/4" diameter pin is very likely the rarest type, with our research discovering just one other known example. Designed with numbers and letters in Yankees midnight blue on a white background, this glossy pin rates as (EX) due to several scratches that have minimal impact on its abundant display appeal. Opening Bid $300.
