With all due respect to "Slingin' Sammy Baugh", Johnny Unitas is the man who defined the notion of "star quarterback". In the 1958 NFL Championship Game, Unitas led the Baltimore Colts to a glorious overtime victory over the New York Giants, in a televised game remembered as "The Greatest Game Ever Played", giving the pro game a big boost in popularity in the process. In all, Unitas and the Colts won 3 NFL Championships, and made 2 Super Bowl appearances, including a win in Super Bowl V. From the Colts Super Bowl V championship season, comes this Unitas autographed 1970 Topps football card #180. This fairly crisp card shows VG-EX details, and Unitas' blue felt-tip pen autograph is a bold ("10") strength example. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Opening Bid $100.
