Watching Walter Payton run the ball for the Chicago Bears, it was easy to see why they called him "Sweetness". Blessed with athletic grace, great speed, and super-human strength, Payton finished up his career in 1987, as the all-time NFL rushing leader, and since his retirement, only Emmitt Thomas has passed him. Payton is seen here in a two-page magazine centerfold poster, which measures 10-3/4 x 15-7/8" when opened. This vintage poster pictures Payton doing what he did best, as he eludes half of the Oakland Raiders defense. The dynamic "Sugar Bear" has provided an ("8") strength blue ballpoint pen autograph, which he has positioned across his number 34 jersey. A tragic illness claimed Payton's life in 1999, when he was only 46 years old, and 25 years later, he remains a prime target for devoted autograph collectors. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA.
