Every major sport in America had that special guy, whose brilliant career ended too soon. Baseball had ace hurler Sandy Koufax, in football it was the fleet Gale Sayers, hockey fans didn't get nearly enough of Bobby Orr, and in basketball, it was "Pistol Pete" Maravich. Though these electrifying superstars were stopped in their tracks by injuries, all were so good during their abbreviated time in the spotlight, that they made it to their respective sport's Hall of Fame anyway. In Maravich's case, it was even worse. Not only was his NBA career too short, but his life as well, ending from an undetected heart ailment in 1988, when the roundball magician was just 40 years old.
