The American League was still in its initial decade of MLB play, when the Detroit Tigers rose from the middle of the pack for the first time in 1907. The Tigers capture of the AL pennant in 1907, started off a string off three consecutive first place seasons, that each ended in trips to the World Series. Peerless hitter Ty Cobb played his first full season in 1907, batting .350, and it was not a coincidence that Detroit finished in first place, for the first time. Commemorate the Tigers first AL pennant, and Cobb's breakout year, with this 1907 H.M. Taylor Detroit Tigers team photo postcard.
This antique RPPC is encapsulated with a technical grade of (PR 1), which must be attributed to writing around the white border on the card's photo side. There's also moderate wear on the corners, but otherwise it is a handsome example presenting VG+ details. A total of nineteen team members are pictured, along with the batboy, and dog mascot. Cobb is seated third from the left in the middle row. Fellow Hall of Famers Sam Crawford and Hughie Jennings are also pictured, with Crawford third from left in the top row, and manager Jennings at center in the first row, holding the team's dog mascot. As noted above, handwritten messages line the border of the obverse. The reverse is postmark dated "10/8/1907", coinciding with the first game of the 1907 World Series. Cards from early in Cobb's career are always a great find, and this one is a very pleasing example, despite the assigned technical grade.
