This 1954 Washington Nationals road jersey #26. size “44” by McGregor, has a zippered front construction and raglan sleeves. Left front breast displays a five inch block “W” in navy cotton twill with red trim. On the reverse is an 8 inch full block #26, also in Navy cotton twill with red trim. Inside the collar is a manufacturer's tag with size, and the logo “McGregor, Cincinnati, OH, Made in USA” above a 1 3/4 inch off-white wool felt swatch chainstitched with the name “Stone,” indicating the jersey was made for pitcher Dean Stone. Inside the right shirt tail is a “Set 1 1954” flagtag. Stone has also signed the shirt on the outside left shirttail. The original zipper has been replaced. There is an interesting back story to this jersey. 1954 was Dean Stone’s best year in the majors. He was selected for the All-Star game. Inserted into the game in relief, he picked off a runner trying to score from third, before he even threw a pitch, becoming the only pitcher in MLB history to become the winning pitcher of the All Star Game without throwing a pitch.
