Antique enthusiasts light up your collection, with this c.1874-1876 bronze baseball figural lamp. The transition from the NAPBB to the NL was taking place, when this ancient lamp was created by the Edward Miller Co., of Meriden, CT. This dynamic piece features a 7" bronze statue of batter with a handlebar mustache, attached to a separate 1" high base, which has a footprint of 4-5/8" square. On the batter's breast, is a raised letter "H", and his belt is etched in with "Hartford Club". The represented team is the Hartford Dark Blues, who competed in the NAPBB in 1874-1875, and then joined the newly formed National League in 1876, as a charter member. In 1877, this early Major League team relocated to New York City, as the Brooklyn Hartfords, and then folded at season's end, narrowing the window for this statue lamp to c.1874-1876.

The batter's uniform is a fantastic representation of the period, with Brooklyn style cap, buttons on the left edge of the jersey, rolled-up sleeves, knickerbocker pants, and high-top shoes. Seen in raised letter's on the back of the player's round base, is "Pat. Apl'd For", and the underside of the base is marked "A409". Both the batter and the base have withstood the test of time in fine fashion, with only modest traces of wear evident. Accompanying is a separate glass lamp oil reservoir, with brass burner. The wick advancing dial is marked "P&A Mfg. Co.", which stands for Plume & Atwood, of nearby Waterbury, CT. While this mismatched piece does not does not tighten on the figure's threaded post at top, it does rest in position comfortably. A glass chimney is not included.
