Tee up the winning bid, to claim this ancient golf pin. Crafted by famous maker Whitehead & Hoag of Newark NJ, this antique ornament was worn by 1 of the 101 contestants who participated in the 1932 United States Women's Amateur Golf Championship. The top female golfer of the day was Glenna Collett-Vare, won this event six times between 1922 and 1935. Collett-Vare had to settle for second in the 1932 tournament, which was held at the Salem Country Club, in Peabody MA. Coming out on top, was Virginia Van Wie, in her first of three consecutive wins. This 1-1/4" diameter brass pin is centered with "USGA", for the governing body, the United States Golf Association. Ringing the central logo, is the legend "Women's Amateur Championship - Sept. 26 to Oct. 1, 1932", in raised lettering against blue enamel. Completing the identification, is the word "Contestant" at top on the front, in raised lettering over green enamel, and the W&H hallmark is located on the back, under the securely attached fastening pin. Also noted on the back, is a hoop at bottom, which likely was intended to enable a ribbon attachment. Wear is moderate, and all lettering remains distinct.
