Artist Alex Schomburg enjoyed a long and productive career. He is best remembered for doing many Timely Comics front covers in the 1940s, including iconic super-hero characters Captain America, Sub-Mariner, Human Torch, and many others. In the 1950s, Schomburg switched his focus to Science Fiction publications.

During his later years, Schomburg produced the offered piece of original artwork titled "Spaceship Heading to Saturn". Sized at 16x20, this mixed-media on board creation presents magnificently, with vibrant colors, excellent perspective, and minimal wear, including a very small ding on the bottom edge. This piece also has a narrow strip of masking tape covering the entire perimeter.

Schomburg has signed on the front, at the bottom left corner, and he has also signed on the back, with the personalization "To my dear Lori- with all my love, Alex Schomburg Sept. 1986", followed by a five-point star. Also written on the back is the note "Give to Lori".

This work appeared on page 270, in the 1997 Penguin book "Infinite Worlds: The Fantastic Visions of Science Fiction Art" by Vincent Di Fate. A previous auction sale in 2016, saw this piece sell for $3,125, and it has been reported as coming from the collection of Dr. Stuart David Schiff, who published and edited the semi-professional Sci-Fi magazine "Whispers" during the 1970s-1980s.

Opening Bid $1,000.
