Under second-year head coach Elmer Layden, the Fighting Irish turned in a 7-1-1 record against fierce competition. Headlining this campaign, was the first game to ever be billed as "The Game of the Century", against #5 Ohio State. Contested on 11/2 at Ohio Stadium, this game set a record for attendance, with 81,000+, who saw the Irish come from behind in the fourth quarter, to win by a score of 18-13, in their first ever meeting with the Buckeyes.
