History buffs take up the challenge for this Joe "Ducky" Medwick home run baseball. Facing Brooklyn Dodgers hurler Vito Tamulis on 7/28/39, the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer belted this ball out of Sportsman's Park in the second inning, for his 7th home run of the 1939 campaign. Though the Spalding factory labeling stamps are no longer visible, this vintage sphere retains a great look of period authenticity, including a considerable contact mark, that left abrasions straddling the red stitching at the point of impact. A letter from a previous sale cites "Property from the family of Joe Medwick", and boldly applied lettering reads: "St. Louis July 28th, 39" on the sweet spot; "Our Joe's Home Run Ball No. 7" on the west panel; and "Brooklyn 5, Cardinals 4, Tamulis - Phelps, Cooper - Owen" on the east panel. The names on the east panel are those of the Dodgers and Cardinals batteries, who were in the game when Medwick launched his blast.

Opening Bid $200.
