Review ancient baseball history, with this selection of (6) publications and flats. Dating from 1874-1919, these nicely preserved relics all qualify for genuine antique status.
The headliner is a rare 1919 Cincinnati Reds program, which is scored in pencil for a game versus the Pittsburgh Pirates, from the season the Reds won the World Series thanks to a big assist from the Chicago "Black Sox". The twine-bound spine has been professionally restored along the interior of the cover and pages, with a pleasing result. Otherwise this super-tough program presents Vg-Ex+ details.
Balance are:
1914 Boston Braves program, scored in pencil for a game versus the Brooklyn Robins. This was a championship season for the Braves, who beat Connie Mack's talent rich Philadelphia Athletics in the World Series. While a fairly unobtrusive 3" split along the top of the spine forces a technical grade of Fr, this program otherwise presents Vg+ details.
Baseball Magazine (3): 12/1912 has a detached cover, but otherwise presents as Vg; 12/1913 Vg; 12/1915 Fr-Gd.
1/24/1874 Harper's Weekly team engraving of the Boston Red Stockings, who won the National Association championship in the year of publication. Pictured are Hall of Famers Harry Wright, George Wright, "Deacon" White, Jim O'Rourke, and Al Spalding, who started 69 of the team's 70 games, with a record of 52-16. With deference to a small notch of inconsequential surface loss on the bottom edge, this piece presents Vg details.
