A youthful autograph hunter proved himself dedicated to his cause, by tracking down the (150+) multi-sport signatures in this 1960s album. Sized at 6 x 4-1/2” this cream-colored album shows age-appropriate signs of attrition, and great period authenticity. Our young collector had a plan, and his gathered autographs appear in groupings, with baseball first, followed by football, and at the end basketball.
Signature strength ranges (“7” to “9”), and a good number of all-time greats serve as highlights, with: Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges, Phil Rizzuto, Tony Oliva, Minnie Minoso, Early Wynn, Hoyt Wilhelm, “Red” Barber, Bobby Mitchell, Charley Taylor, “Sonny” Jurgensen (X2), Sam Huff, Paul Krause (X2), “Rosey” Brown, Emlin Tunnell, Jim Brown, Walt Bellamy, Oscar Robertson, Rod Thorn, and Bill Bradley.
Other notables are: Bobby Richardson, Jim Bouton, Jimmy Piersall, “Dusty” Rhodes, Don Rudolph (d.1968), Tommy John, George Selkirk, Don Zimmer, Bill “Moose” Skowron, Tony Kubek, Frank Howard, “Spider” Lockhart, Jimmy Patton (D.1972), and Gene Shue (X2).
Approximately 20% of the autographs are affected by adhesive staining, including Oscar Robertson and Bill Bradley. As fortune would have it, the signatures of Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Jim Brown, and Gil Hodges are crisp and unaffected by staining. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Opening Bid $400.
