Marketed in 1962 by Topps under the dummy company name “Bubbles Inc.”, the outrageous Mars Attacks series has blossomed into a collecting legend. Released at a time when the Sci-Fi genre was packing movie houses for Saturday matinees, this entertaining and often gory series sparked parental outrage over its many violent, nightmare inducing illustrations, leading Topps to halt production. As is typical with banned and forbidden items, this classic series grew more and more popular over time and is generally considered one of the biggest non-sport card prizes of the post-WWII era. Blessed with the zany artwork of genius pulp magazine, comic book and paperback illustrator Norm Saunders, this colorful, boundary pushing set is a permanent want list fixture, with demand always at full blast.
