Living in the modern world, with a $5 cup of coffee, a $5 gallon of gas, and little else you purchase for a "fin", it seems incredible that there was ever a time when you could buy anything of value for a nickel. Such was the case in 1957, when a kid wanted to score a pack of baseball cards, which also included the requisite stick of bubble gum. Proof is seen with your own eyes, as you examine this 1957 Topps baseball retail display box. Sporting vibrant colors designed to grab your attention, this vintage box is ready to grace your shelf in (VG) condition, with great period-authentic appeal. The completely reasonable cost of 5¢ per pack is announced not once, but twice, at the lower left corner of the lid, and directly below on the forward facing panel. Graphics include fielding and batting players, along with a series of premium offers on the rear panel. Of course, the Topps logo appears everywhere, while Bazooka branding sponsors the back panel promotion. All flaps remain securely attached, the surfaces are fairly clean with decent gloss, and overall the box displays a pleasing shape, however there is a small tear on the lid, directly behind the elbow of the fielder on the lid's pop-out section. Only a calculated dip of the hand into the box, to score just the right pack, and then a hasty opening would reveal which cardboard treasures were won those sixty-six years ago, but there's no mystery here, this senior citizen collectible is a sweet, nostalgic find.
