Wow factor abounds with this Barney Dreyfuss handwritten and signed letter. A 6x7 sheet of Hotel Brunswick note paper, this antique correspondence is from the Pittsburgh Pirates owner to player Lewis Carr, informing him of his pending release from the team, effective ten days from the letter's date of 8/17/1901. Of great historic interest, this action came during the Pirates first ever season as National League champions, predating the first World Series by two years.

Dreyfuss, who died in 1932 after more than forty years as a baseball executive, was finally voted into the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 2008, causing advanced autograph collectors to take up the chase for examples of his signature. Neatly penned on a moderately toned page that has taken on a great look of period authenticity with age appropriate wear, this letter concludes with a pleasing ("8") strength Dreyfuss endorsement as "Prest. Pittsburgh Athletic Co.". Full photo LOA from PSA/DNA.
