Seeking to clean up the mess of the 1919 "Black Sox" scandal, Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis was named the first Commissioner of Baseball in 1920. Landis presided over the game with absolute authority until his death in 1944. Upon his passing, a special vote was held by the Old Timer's Committee, and he was quickly elected to the Hall of Fame.

Be quick to claim this Landis typed letter signed on Baseball Commissioner letterhead. Addressed to "E.M. Daily. President, Middle Atlantic League", this fairly crisp and clean correspondence demonstrates the resolute jurist's no nonsense approach, as he seeks resolution to a matter of payment due an umpire named "Ragan". Dated 5/6/30, this antique letter bears two original period compacting folds, and otherwise remains very pleasing in showing (EX) detail. Landis has signed with ("8-9") potency by means of a steel-tip fountain pen. Full photo LOA from JSA.
