Boxing buffs score a knockout, with this c.1937-1938 Joe Louis figure clock. Looming eternal over a "United Self Starting" clock face, the "Brown Bomber" looks every bit the regal heavyweight champion of the world. His recently acquired title is proclaimed on a ribbon scroll at the bottom of this timeless creation, which was produced shortly after Louis defeated "Cinderella Man" James J. Braddock to start his twelve year reign at the top of the heavyweight division. Standing 12-1/2" tall with base dimensions of 9x4, this metal clock is all display appeal, with realistic details finished in a bronze tone. Moderate age appropriate wear is noted and the felt liner from the underside of the base is long gone, however given the nature of this majestic piece, plenty of original detail still shows after more than eighty years of existence. The clock does not run, however the a knob on the back does move the clock hands and the power cord is securely attached. A look inside shows the cord has been split and capped, so it may just be a simple matter of twisting the severed ends together to get this piece back on time, but we will leave that to the winning bidder, as our experience in the electrician department is non-existent.
