One of baseball's earlier forays into the Far East came in 1922, when Herb Hunter led a squad of American all-stars on a world tour that included stops in the Philippines, China, Korea, Russia and Japan. A rare and remarkable souvenir of the trip arrives stateside, with this 1922 Herb Hunter All-Stars 8x10 photograph. While several various photos from this far flung journey have survived, this particular image positions as a potentially unique example, and all such photos are highly prized. Well worn with sections of surface loss, this antique photo still remains appealing with distinct and easily recognizable images of the squad that accompanied Hunter, who is seen at center wearing street clothes and a fedora. Seated directly in front of Hunter with an "Empress of Canada" life preserver in front of him, is "Bullet Joe" Bush (d.1974), who is the lone figure to have signed ("6-7") this century-old photograph. Others pictured are MLB players: Luke Sewell, Amos Strunk, Waite Hoyt (HOF), Frank "Buck" O'Neill (coach in street clothes), "Doc" Lavan, Bibb Falk, "Irish" Meusel, "Casey" Stengel (HOF), Fred Hoffman, George Kelly (HOF), Herb Pennock (HOF), Bert Griffith, Riggs Stephenson, along with three unidentified others wearing street clothes. Full photo LOA from JSA for the Joe Bush autograph.
